Double Naught Spy Car
"Danger High"
Paul Lacques plays guitar and lap steel on this unusual instrumental
rock CD. Double Naught Spy Car is a guitar-oriented fusion
quartet with a fondness for spy movie sounds. They use distortion
in ways that I'd never heard before, and their half-dissonant compositions
are a bit reminiscent of Frank Zappa.
Since Paul doubles on guitar, only half of the songs really feature
the steel. Paul's steel playing is every bit as inventive as the
music, though, and his technique is enough to make imitators jealous.
He really knows his way around on that little lap steel. The CD
is on the Pascal Records label, which also produced The
Vanduras CD. Looks like lap steel fever has hit southern California!
