Steel Guitar Forum - S.I.T.
8 String High E13th, Pure Nickel Wound
In the early days, most electric steel guitar strings were wound with an alloy called pure nickel. When the price of nickel rose dramatically in the 1960's, vitually all of the string manufacturers switched to the nickel plated steel that is commonly called "nickel wound" today.
By special arrangement with S.I.T. Strings, we have developed a few pure nickel string sets for steel guitarists who long to capture that sound and feeling of yesteryear. Our "high E13th" set is designed for the popular tuning used by legendary players like Don Helms (with Hank Williams) and "Little" Roy Wiggins (with Eddy Arnold). They are a bit on the heavy side too, for a rich, full tone.

8 String A6th, Pure Nickel Wound
By special arrangement with S.I.T. Strings, we have developed few pure nickel string sets for non-pedal steel guitarists who long to capture the sound and feeling of the 1940's and 50's. Our A6th set is designed for that popular "high 5th" tuning used by legendary players like Noel Boggs and Herb Remington. The gauges also work well for C6th tuning.

Lap Steel Sets
Jagwire worked with me to develop these three sets for six string
lap steel. They cover the 5 most common lap steel tunings. They
have nickel wounds. Here are the gauges:
C6th/A6th A Major/E7 E Major
--------- ---------- -------
E/E .015 E /E .015 E .015
C/C# .017 C#/B .018 B .020
A/A .020 A /G# .022w G# .024w
G/F# .024w E /E .030 E .030
E/E .030 C#/D .036 B .038
C/C# .036 A /B .042 E .054
The C6th/A6th is the most popular set among traditional lap steel
players, and it is also the lightest. It can be used for the C6th or A6th tuning, or
for Jerry Byrd's C6/C# tuning (E C A G E C#). Order item
#J-L6C.
A major was the original steel guitar tuning when the instrument
first surfaced in the 1930's. E7th is a popular tuning among
guitarists who want to eventually make the transition to E9th pedal
steel. The same string gauges can be used for both tunings. Order
item #J-L6A.
The E Major is the heaviest set, common among blues players.
Rock guitarists appreciate the heavy low E string. Order item #J-L6E.
Single string substitutions are permitted if the gauges are a little
bit off of what you need. Nobody should have to play the wrong string
gauges. |
