The 10-string E9th pedal steel copedent makes extreme demands on guitar strings. In recent years, many steel guitarists have turned to the Jagwire String company to meet their needs. We offer
a wide selection of Jagwire strings in specially gauged sets that have been endorsed by famous name players.
Most steel guitarists prefer nickel wound strings, but some
prefer the long-lasting brightness of stainless steel wounds. Note that
the difference between nickel and stainless only affects the wound strings.
It is the alloy used for the windings.
Jagwire .011 and .0115 plains strings are designated with an "ST"
for "Short Twist". Regarding these ST strings, Danny Hullihen
of Jagwire says: "We've shortened the twist .060ths to give more string
contact, thus longer life, better tone, just a better string."

Paul Franklin - Artist Series
Nickel E9th
Paul Franklin is probably the busiest session steel guitarist in Nashville. His artistry can be heard on countless hit records and album tracks. Paul writes: "After some lengthy experimentation with nearly every brand out there, I have chosen the Jagwire String. I believe it is the best of the best. The string guages I now use on the E9th are a little different. I found that these guages deliver a more warm and balanced tone quality to my copedent than the lighter guages used for the E and G# strings."
Notice that his high strings are quite heavy. The wound strings in this set are nickel.

Ricky Davis - Artist Series
Nickel E9th
Texas steeler Ricky Davis is best known for his recordings
with Dale Watson, and for his spectaular restorations of vintage
pedal steels. Ricky prefers heavier gauges on the E9th than most
players, and uses a wound 6th string on the E9th neck. They seem
to be very popular among Sho-Bud players.
These are nickel wound strings.

Lloyd Green - Artist Series
Stainless E9th
The 10 string Lloyd Green E9th set has stainless steel wound
strings, which Lloyd prefers. The gauges are a bit on the heavy side.
Notice the use of the .0115 ST for a richer high G# tone.
This set includes a wound 6th string. Most players today use a plain
6th string. If you are switching from a plain string, you may need
to change the leverage point on the 6th string rod puller (bell crank)
or move the rod to a different changer hole. The wound G# requires more changer travel than a plain string.
