Bobbe Seymour here with today’s newsletter.
Well I’m spending more time at the store, probably as much as I’m physically able to. After being gone for a couple years, it’s taking some time to settle back in. So much has happened since I’ve been away including the loss of one of my best friends in the steel guitar business.
As I’m sure most of you know, Mr. Maurice Anderson is no longer with us. He was the father of my C6th playing. I was probably the father of his E9th playing. He also was an incredible non-pedal 12 string player. My friend since I was a little kid, I admired him tremendously. I’m sure anybody that knew him felt the same way.
Maurice and I had our problems after I left the MSA circle, but our problems were resolved and our childhood friendship continued until he left us.
There are so many good steel players and friends that I have lost over the years and of course, being a studio musician in Nashville, it hurts to lose anyone regardless of what instrument they played in the studio circle.
Duke Dumas, a guitar player in the studios here in Nashville and also known by most of you as a musician that Scotty uses on bass guitar for the big show on Labor Day. He made a visit to Steel Guitar Nashville the other day and said he had just lost a loved one and he had determined that he was going to visit and catch with everyone he hadn’t been keeping up with while they are still here to be visited.
I feel the same way about all you guys. I’m looking forward to reconnecting. I remember Johnny Paycheck saying at the end of one of our shows, “Thanks for coming to see me. You’re coming around is wonderful. That’s how I know I’m still around because you people are coming to see me.” I wish he was still here.
Don’t forget the big steel guitar workshop that we have planned for all you guys and gals. Here’s where to find out the details.
